Small Fishing Boats - The Economical Choice For Fishermen
By Trevor Kugler
When it comes to boats many anglers have to do without for economical reasons. I don't know about you, but I don't have an extra twenty grand lying around to buy a boat. I wish I did, but unfortunately I simply don't. This is where small boats come into play.
For about a tenth of the cost of a new boat (and about a quarter of a used boat) a small boat can be purchased, and for a fisherman, these small boats can be just what the doctor ordered. There are the obvious choices of canoes and kayaks. Both of these small boats can work (heck kayak has become very popular), but in this article I'm going to discuss the selling points of the pontoon boat.
Pontoon boats are a wonderful and economical choice for fishermen. These small boats can be used in all types of water including lakes, ponds, rivers, small rivers, and even streams. The pontoon boats that I'm referring to have 2 inflatable pontoons with a seat (or seats) in between the pontoons for the fisherman. These boats are much easier to fish from than their cousins the kayak and canoe. I like to refer to these small boats as personal pontoon boats.
Personal pontoon boats are no doubt the economical choice for fishermen. The amount of water that can be accessed from these boats is amazing. Have you ever been wading your favorite river to the point that the depth of the water, current flow, or brush stopped you in your
tracks? This scenario used to happen to me, that is until I invested in a personal pontoon boat. Now, I float my favorite rivers unencumbered by such problems.
Some of these small boats are large enough for a couple of anglers, and can even have a small motor mounted on them. All of this for much less money than a traditional boat costs. Fly fishermen have known about and used these types of boats for many years, but these small boats are also perfect for those of us who choose not to fly fish.
The bottom line is that whether you choose a canoe, kayak, or personal pontoon boat, these watercraft are all the economical choice for fishermen. They cost much less money, are much more convenient, and simply better for than many other options. The next time the thought of a boat crosses your mind, consider these small boats as a viable alternative to their high priced cousins.
