Over the years, I have made some dumb mistakes. I have forgotten bait, broken the rod in a car door, and even stepped on a few rods. I have also been snagged in a tree, hooked into my own leg, and other very dumb mistakes. However those are just a part of fishing. What really makes me mad is the stupid mistakes that involve careless preparation, like not having the proper tackle or gear.

One time I went in the Mississippi River, however I only had small weights and could not even keep my bait on the bottom. There is no excuse for things like that.

The mistakes getting even more important when you are for bigger fish such as Carp or Northern Pike or Catfish. These species will abuse your gear and

you better be sure to have solid equipment or you will lose a trophy fish. I have done it too many times to do it again.

Every time I go I make sure I am prepared to catch a 50 lb or bigger fish. That means all my hooks are sharp, my knots are good, and my line is strong enough. It may seem like it is a bit much, but I do not want to lose another huge carp.

Be sure to check everything on your rig before you cast out. You may be one bite away from a big one, or one bite away from a line break.
