3.  Preliminary Patent Search
A patent search is the essential pre-requisite to obtaining patent protection. It is designed to establish whether your idea, or something similar to it, has been patented before. To undertake patenting without a preliminary patent search is a high risk venture and is not recommended by Inventors' Net. Find out more

People often believe that after fully patenting a brilliant new idea, it is only a matter of time before someone will discover the patent and offers to commercialize the invention. Unfortunately, with over 50 million patents at any time this is no longer a realistic expectation. If you are serious about your idea and want to see it turned into a fully fledged invention, you must obtain some form of patent protection, at least to the 'patent pending' status. Without that, you will not be able to advertise or promote the idea, as it is easily stolen.
